Most webhost that I have dealt with always have some exlusionary wording about back-ups, thats why it is absoloutely imperative to back up this data yourself. Unfortunately shi* happens. Most web hosts make a good attempt to back up and restore their data, but as has happened to me more than once is that they backed up corrupted data from a bad hard drive that when restored was useless.
What everybody most worried about finally strikes me. With the mishandling of the hard drive on the server of my Web hosting company, I lost databases and files. Even though they tried to recover the databases and files, they are still not up to date, especially, the huge databases with all my users’ data. If anybody had the same fate before, how could you ask for the compensation of damage? How am I supposed to issue my concern about the compensation to Web Hosting company?
I hate to deal with this kind of issues but I know as long as I am a webmaster, I will face it sooner or later. I run a web hosting company, and I still keep local copies of databases by copying them back to my hard drive over FTP. I know the back ups are there, but I am just not trustin genough to rely on them.
